3 sweeteners you MUST avoid

 Hi there

7 Signs You May be Insulin Resistant (Pre-Diabetes)

Insulin resistance is a danger signal you should NOT ignore.

What is insulin resistance?

Our bodies were made to handle only 4 teaspoons of sugar (glucose) at a time. So, when you eat a high-carb meal, snack on sugary, starchy foods, or chug down a soda with sugar, your glucose goes up. Glucose is extremely damaging to the body, so the pancreas pumps out insulin. Insulin grabs onto the glucose in the blood and escorts it into the cells, where it’s used for energy or converted to fat and stored.

But here’s the problem. If you continue to eat foods and drinks that cause your blood sugar to go up, over time, insulin loses its ability to lower blood glucose and it takes more and more insulin to get it under control. When the body cannot keep your blood sugar in check anymore, your cells become ‘insulin resistant,’ and you are headed towards full-blown Type 2 Diabetes.

How do I Know if I am Insulin Resistant?

Although most doctors rarely test for high insulin levels, there are a few obvious signs and symptoms that you are becoming insulin resistant and could be pre-diabetic:

  1. Weight gain—Because insulin is a fat-storing hormone, higher levels of insulin mean your body is storing most everything you eat as fat. Any additional weight, often around your mid-section, is one of the first signs of higher-than-normal levels of insulin.

  2. High Blood Pressure—Often a sign of insulin resistance and a risk factor for heart disease.

  3. High Fasting Glucose—If your glucose levels are at 100 mg/dL or higher first thing in the morning BEFORE you eat, it’s a good sign your insulin is not keeping glucose at a healthy level.

  4. High Triglycerides—Triglycerides are fatty acids floating around in the blood and when they reach levels of 150 mg/dL or above, you probably have insulin resistance.

  5. Skin tags—Ever see little extra growths of skin around your eyes or eyelids? Those are skin tags and those occur with insulin resistance.

  6. High A1c—A1c is a measurement of your blood sugar over 3 months’ time. If A1c is higher than 5.7%, you are most likely insulin-resistant and possibly pre-diabetic.

  7. Frequent Yeast (Candida) Infections—If you are a female and tend to get vaginal yeast infections or even frequent bladder infections, it’s likely your blood sugar is too high, and you are becoming insulin resistant.

If you happen to have any of the above signs or symptoms, check with your doctor or health care practitioner to see if you may be insulin resistant. Heed the warning and make necessary changes now before pre-diabetes becomes full-blown type 2 diabetes.
