To promote its mixed reality device Hololens 2, Microsoft teamed up with prominent occultist Marina Abramovic to create an art project named The Life. In a promotional video posted on Microsoft’s official YouTube account, Abramovic is described as the “most legendary performance artist working now”.

The art project consists of people wearing the Holohens device to witness a ghostly version of Abramovic appearing out of nowhere while walking around while wearing a symbolic red dress.

In the video, which was released on Good Friday, Marina says that the project allows her to attain a form of immortality.

“The Life is dealing with what is going to stay after I’m not there anymore, and I can face myself, and this frightening experience. Really like you’re facing your own ghost, but it is always this greater idea of immortality. Once you die the work could never die because the work of art can continue. In performance, the piece is only in the memory of the audience and nowhere else. Here I am kept forever.”

El Gobierno de Estados Unidos, a través de su Agencia para el Desarrollo (USAID), y Microsoft “beneficiarán a un total de 25,000 jóvenes con programas de software y aplicaciones educativas”, en el marco del programa de la iniciativa “Estamos con vos”, una operación más de penetración de ls socidedad salvadoreña.

Microsoft aportará $2.9 millones para la apertura de 77 nuevos Centros de Alcance “Por mi Barrio”, que USAID – una fachada de la CIA – establecerá en 13 municipios del país, en cada uno se abrirán entre seis a siete centros.

“La iniciativa se enmarca en el proyecto Prevención del crimen y la violencia y de la Asociación Red Centros de Alcance”, según la embajada.

Microsoft aportará herramientas tecnológicas y capacitaciones a los jóvenes, “en busca de que hagan un uso creativo de su tiempo libre”.

Hasta la fecha, a través de USAID, Estados Unidos ha “ayudado” a la creación de 37 Centros de Alcance en todo el país.

The New Xbox One Will be a “Monitoring Device Under the Guise of a Gaming Console”

I remember when video games were about getting Mario to save the princess and, when you were done, the console would leave you the hell alone. The new Xbox one apparently wants to put an end to those days by turning the beloved game console into a 24/7 surveillance device. The Xbox One will bundle the Kinect – a device that captures motion and sound - with every console and its camera and mic will be always on by default. In fact, Xbox One will actually refuse to work if the Kinect is not connected to it. So the camera and mic will work even when the console is turned off. And the camera will even work in the dark. Yup. It will also be able to read your facial expressions and count the people in the room with you (there are also talks ofcharging Pay-Per-View movies PER PERSON in the room).

Furthermore, all of this data captured by the device could easily be transmitted to God knows where as the console will constantly require an internet connection to even function. This capability is rationalized because Microsoft wants to give users the ability of turning on the console by saying “Xbox On”. So, for this reason, the console needs to be listening to EVERY SINGLE word you’re saying around it in case you say “Xbox On”.

The unveiling of these capabilities no one asked for has lifted some eyebrows around the world.

Tim Vines, director at Civil Liberties Australia, told GamesFIX that Microsoft has a lot to answer for with a product that has the ability to listen and watch everything a person does.

“People should have the ability to turn off the camera or microphone, even if it limits the functionality of the machine,” he said. Vines believes privacy is “all about control”.

“Of course, if Microsoft doesn’t allow that (control), then people should vote with their wallets and skip the next Xbox.”

Vines says Microsoft should be upfront about what it does with data collected by Xbox One.

“Microsoft’s new Xbox meets the definition of a surveillance device under some Australian laws, so they need to be upfront and tell customers whether anyone else can intercept their information or remotely access their device,” Vines said.

According to Berlin’s federal data protection commissioner, Peter Schaar, the Xbox One is nothing more than a monitoring device under the guise of a gaming console.

“The Xbox One continuously records all sorts of personal information about me. My reaction rates, my learning or emotional states. These are then processed on an external server, and possibly even passed on to third parties. The fact that Microsoft could potentially spy on my living room is merely a twisted nightmare.”

Even if the Xbox One provides the option of turning off the camera and mic of the console, History shows that these options could easily be overridden remotely by any organization or creep with some technological capability. Poder evitar los crímenes y las actividades delictivas antes de que se produzcan es el sueño de todos los cuerpos de seguridad. En el cine y la televisión se han recreado historias en las que la tecnología facilitaba esta posibilidad. ‘Minority Report’ o ‘Person of Interest’ son solo algunos ejemplos. Sin embargo, las tecnologías necesarias ya no son ciencia ficción.

Domain Awareness System es una tecnología desarrollada por Microsoft y la Policía de Nueva York, que permitirá controlar las actividades delictivas e incluso anticiparlas. Se trata de un sistema que monitoriza, analiza y cruza datos e informaciones de fuentes como el 911, redes de videovigilancia, bases de datos y datos de Internet. El objetivo es mantener un control mayor sobre las emergencias y poder, incluso prever las zonas en las que hay más probabilidades de que se produzcan.

Los cuerpos de seguridad van a poder relacionar casos e informaciones, mejorando su respuesta a los incidentes. La posibilidad de escanear e interrelacionar información de distintas fuentes en cuestión de segundos puede también generar patrones que ayuden en la investigación y prevención de delitos.

Se trata de un sistema que recuerda a los de las películas, pero que ya funciona en la ciudad estadounidense. De hecho, el alcalde de Nueva York ha presentado oficialmente el sistema y ha publicado un vídeo en su cuenta de YouTube en el que aparece el sistema y su funcionamiento, incluidas las múltiples pantallas que muestran las novedades en la ciudad.
