The Reversal of Kerry’s Ukraine Statement Came from Obama, Not Nuland

When Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland on May 15th contradicted her boss John Kerry’s statement of three days earlier, in which Kerry had warned Ukraine’s President Petro Petroshenko not to violate the Minsk II agreement, and not to invade Crimea, and not to re-invade Donbass, the source of this reversal was actually U.S. President Barack Obama, and not Victoria Nuland (as the State Department had reported).

When I first noticed the contradiction as I reported on May 21st, Nuland’s statement on May 15th was being quoted by Ukraine’s Interfax News Agency, without any link to its U.S. source. I looked but didn’t right away find its U.S. source, but the official Ukrainian news agency would not quote a U.S. Government official falsely, and so I went with the story on that basis.

Now that I have found the U.S. source in the full May 15th U.S. State Department press briefing in Washington, there can be little doubt that Nuland had actually been instructed by the White House to be quoted there as issuing this reversal of Kerry’s statement.

The press conference, by the Department’s press spokesperson Jeff Rathke, opened with an introductory statement in which he asserted:

Assistant Secretary Nuland’s ongoing visit to Kyiv and her discussions with Prime Minister Yatsenyuk and President Poroshenko reaffirm the United States’ full and unbreakable support for Ukraine’s government, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. We continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Ukraine and reiterate our deep commitment to a single Ukrainian nation, including Crimea, and all the other regions of Ukraine.

As of today's date, (June 8, 2015), 9 days have passed since Secretary of State John Kerry "broke his femur bone" while "bike-riding" in France. We here at The Anti-New York Times (Sugar the Cat and myself) do not traffic in unsubstantiated Internet rumors and hearsay. For that reason, we ignored the early stories about Kerry having been shot and gravely injured in an ISIS (i.e. Israel) assassination attempt.

But after thorough daily searches of the Internet, we have yet to find a single post-"bike accident" photo or video clip of John Kerry. Though a broken femur would be a serious injury, it would not prevent him from waving to a camera as he's being carted out of an ambulance into a Boston hospital; or saying a few words from a hospital bed; or being wheel-chaired to the funeral of Vice President Joe Biden's son. Heck, your reporter here recalls his elderly father groggily cracking jokes from his hospital bed the day after he had triple bypass surgery! 

There are stories of Kerry recovering in a Boston hospital, but we have seen neither hide nor hair of the chatty Secretary. Attention-seeking politicians like him adore the spotlight. Why can't he give a "thumbs-up" for the cameras? Why hasn't his famous busy-body wife publicly commented on this? Where is the media on this? When Vladimir Putin disappears for an extended bathroom break, the Western Press is rife with conspiracy theories about his "disappearance". Not so in this case. What's going on here?

With that in mind it is worth returning to the assault on Libya and the allegation by Susan Rice, then US Ambassador to the UN, in April 2011, that the Libyan government was issuing Viagra to its troops, instructing them to use rape as a weapon of terror.

“by US military and intelligence officials that there is no basis for Rice’s claims. While rape has been reported as a ‘weapon’ in many conflicts, the US officials (said) they’ve seen no such reports out of Libya.”

Contrary to Diana Johnstone’s recent assertion that the escalating crisis between the U.S. and Russia “all began…in Yalta in September 2013,” (Counterpunch, Dec. 9), we actually need to go back a bit further to the May 2012 Bilderberg meeting in Chantilly, Virginia.

For fear of being called “conspiracy theorists,” most journalists avoid mentioning Bilderberg – the annual conclave where wealthy power-brokers gather to discuss and attempt to orchestrate unfolding world events. But if journalism is the so-called “first draft of history,” then leaving Bilderberg out of the narrative distorts any attempt at contemporary understanding of an ongoing crisis such as this one between Russia and the West.

Daniel Estulin, the foremost (non-member) expert on Bilderberg, reported in June 2012 that the “top headache” for the Bilderberg participants at that May 2012 meeting was Russian President Vladimir Putin because of his “opposition to war in Syria and Iran,” his “belligerence with respect to U.S. bases encircling Russia,” his “insistence on maintaining state sovereignty intact,” and his plans for another natural gas pipeline to Europe (South Stream) that “could turn into a major victory for Russia” at the expense of competing plans (the Nabucco pipeline) backed by Bilderberg members. [1]

Some 30 per cent of Western Europe’s natural gas has been coming from Russia, with most of it provided by a pipeline network centred in Ukraine.

Estulin noted a Bilderberg “campaign to delegitimize Putin,” financed by “some very angry and powerful Anglo-American elites.” Present at that 2012 conclave were top executives from Royal Dutch Shell (CEO Peter Voser and Chair Jorma Ollila) and BP (CEO Robert Dudley). [2] Also present was then-Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, now U.S. Secretary of State.

Given the seven Canadian participants in that May 2012 Bilderberg meeting, including the then Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, I have argued elsewhere that the Bilderberg conclave likely gave tacit approval to TransCanada Corporation’s Energy East pipeline. [3] That pipeline – hatched as an alternative to Keystone XL which has been blocked by the U.S. – is intended to take tar sands crude to Atlantic tidewater for export, including to Europe.

I recently discovered that John Kerry’s federal financial disclosure records in January 2013 revealed investments in two Calgary-based tar sands producers: Suncor and Cenovus Energy. [4] Both companies are backing the Energy East pipeline as an export alternative to Keystone XL. So apparently, tar sands shareholder John Kerry was involved in the Bilderberg discussions about demonizing Putin on behalf of Western oil interests.

The EU, worried about meting long-term fuel needs, is now vacillating about enforcing its Fuel Quality Directive (FQD), which would restrict imports of heavy crude such as tar sands oil. Canada’s business press recently reported: “All this uncertainty for both Europe and Russia augurs well for Canada” because it “may well prompt EU politicians to finally endorse imports of Canada oil.” [5] With no official parliamentary debate, PM Harper sent Canadian troops to Ukraine-related NATO exercises in May 2014, and he has been a shrill opponent to Putin on the world stage.

Interestingly, Daniel Estulin further reported that at the May 2012 Bilderberg meeting, “…one European Bilderberger openly admitted [that] ‘Putin is by far the most formidable opponent in the world stage to our plans.’ What makes [the] Bilderberg position that much more difficult is Putin’s moral position in ‘protecting and promoting its [Russia’s] national interest’.”

In other words, Putin had done nothing wrong, and the Bilderberg participants knew it. But he is in the way of “our plans,” whatever those may be.

A major transition in US counter-terrorism doctrine is unfolding.

While Barack Obama, following in the footsteps of  George W. Bush, remains firmly committed to waging a “Global War on Terrorism” (GWOT), his administration is now openly supporting selected rebel units in Syria which are part of the Al Qaeda network.


Known and documented, Al Qaeda is a creation of the CIA, which has covertly supported the “Islamic Terror Network” since the heyday of the Soviet Afghan war.

While Al Qaeda is a US sponsored “intelligence asset”, a “New Normal” has been established.

An Al Qaeda affiliated organization, namely Syria’s Al Nusrah, is being supported “overtly” by the US President, rather than “covertly” by the CIA.


The support of Al Nusrah, an affiliate of al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), is no longer channeled in secrecy as part of a CIA-MI6 covert operation, it  is now being supported –in a semi-official fashion– as part of a US foreign policy agenda. The latter is also part of America’s diplomatic discourse, implemented in consultation with Britain, Canada, Germany and France. Although Al Nusrah was not mentioned explicitly, “support to the Syrian rebels” was the main topic of debate at the June 2013 G-8 meetings in Northern Ireland.

While intelligence covert ops continue to perform an important role, Washington’s support to Al Qaeda in Syria is now “out in the open”, within the public domain. It is no longer part of a secret undertaking. It is part of the mainstay of US foreign policy, carried out under the helm of Secretary of State John Kerry.

“Support to the rebels” is also debated in the US Congress. It is the object of a bill which has already been adopted by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.  Senator Corker who co-sponsored the bill stated that:

“The future for Syria is uncertain, but the U.S. has a vested interest in trying to prevent an extremist takeover, which poses a very real risk for us and the region,” (emphasis added)

In a twisted logic, the bill purports to prevent “an extremist takeover” by supporting an Al Qaeda terrorist formation.

The Senate Committee on Foreign Relations voted 15-3 in favor of the proposed bill.

Es conocida su autoría en la masacre de la aldea de Qibya, que costó la vida a 69 palestinos, la mayoría mujeres y niños en 1953. Como ministro de defensa lanzó la primera y sangrienta guerra contra Líbano, donde favoreció la matanza de cientos de palestinos en los campos de Sabra y Shatila en 1982 por sus aliados de la Falange libanesa. Does the American public have the strength of character to face the fact that the US government stands before the entire world revealed as a collection of war criminals who

lie every time that they open their mouth? Will Congress and the American public buy the White House lie that they must support war criminals and liars or “America will lose face”?

The obama regime’s lies are so transparent and blatant that the cautious, diplomatic President Putin of Russia lost his patience and stated the fact that we all already know:

John Kerry is a liar. Putin said:

“This was very unpleasant and surprising for me. We talk to them [the Americans], and we assume they are decent people, but he [Kerry] is lying and he knows that he is lying. This is sad.”

When Secretary of State Colin Powell was sent by the criminal bush regime to lie to the UN, Powell and his chief of staff claim that Powell did not know he was lying. It did not occur to the Secretary of State that the White House would send him to the UN to start a war that killed, maimed, and dispossessed millions of Iraqis on the basis of total lies.

The despicable John Kerry knows that he is lying. Here is the American Secretary of State, and obama, the puppet president, knowingly lying to the world. There is not a shred of integrity in the US government. No respect for truth, justice, morality or human life. Here are two people so evil that they want to repeat in Syria what the bush war criminals did in Iraq.

How can the American people and their representatives in Congress tolerate these extraordinary criminals? Why are not obama and John Kerry impeached? The obama regime has every quality of Nazi Germany and Stasi Communist Germany, only that the obama regime is worse. The obama regime spies on the entire world and lies about it. The obama regime is fully engaged in killing people in seven countries, a murderous rampage that not even Hitler attempted.

Whether the criminal obama regime can purchase the collaboration of Congress and the European puppet states in a transparent war crime will soon be decided. The decision will determine the fate of the world.

As for facts, the report released to the UN by the Russian government concludes that the weapons used in chemical attacks in Syria are similar to the weapons in the hands of al-Nusra and are different from the weapons known to be possessed by Syria.

The obama regime has released no evidence to the UN. This is because the criminal regime has no evidence, only made up fairy tales.

If the obama regime had any evidence, the evidence would have been released to British Prime Minister david cameron to enable him to carry the vote of Parliament. In the absence of evidence, cameron had to admit to Parliament that he had no evidence, only a belief that the Syrian government had used chemical weapons. Parliament told Washington’s puppet that the British people were not going to war on the basis of the Prime Minister’s unsubstantiated belief.

Are the American people and the rest of the world just going to stand there, sucking their thumbs, while a new Nazi State rises in Washington?

Congress must vote down the war and make it clear to obama that if he defies the constitutional power of Congress he will be impeached.

If the US Congress is too corrupt or incompetent to do its duty, the rest of the world must join the UN General Secretary and the President of Russia and declare that unilateral military aggression by the US government is a war crime, and that the war criminal US government will be isolated in the international community. Any of its members caught traveling abroad will be arrested and turned over to the Hague for trial.

Pero si el tema es el próximo ataque punitivo a Siria, o los últimos avances en la guerra contra las drogas, una ciudadanía informada es menos popular que la alarma de 4 horas de un carro con funcionarios de la Administración. Es menos bienvenido que el beso francés en un picnic familiar. La evidencia televisada el miércoles en las audiencias de la Cámara sobre Siria, que contó con el Secretario de Estado Kerry, el Secretario de Defensa Chuck Hagel, y el jefe del Estado Mayor Conjunto presumiblemente demasiado poderoso para que cualquiera le dijera que su peinado luce ridículo, fue clara e inequívoca: La famosa frase de Walter Cronkite "el derecho del público a saber", se ha sustituido oficialmente en el léxico norteamericano con dos palabras mortales diseñados para detener la discusión en seco: "¡Es clasificado"

La inteligencia fallida sobre Irak todavía proyecta una larga sombra sobre las decisiones acerca de la guerra en el Medio Oriente. Pero las explicaciones de Kerry y Hagel de por qué los EE.UU. debe atacar a Siria eran tan vagas como para ser insultantes. Ver a los dos hombres  actuar como que Irak nunca sucedió fue pasmoso. El cuestionamiento del congresista de Florida Alan Grayson al Secretario de Defensa Chuck Hagel demostró cuan irritados los oficiales se ponen cuando son llevados al límite por su deliberada y arrogante vaguedad. GRAYSON: Ha habido un informe de los medios de comunicación que la administración ha caracterizado erróneamente un ataque posterior en las comunicaciones militares sirias y que estas comunicaciones efectivamente expresan sorpresa por el ataque. Esta es una acusación muy grave. ¿Puedes por favor liberar las transcripciones originales para que el pueblo estadounidense pueda hacer su propio juicio acerca de esta importante cuestión? HAGEL: ¿A qué transcripciones te refieres? GRAYSON: Las transcripciones que fueron reportadas luego del ataque en las que el gobierno sugirió que confirman la existencia de un ataque, pero en realidad se ha informado que los comandantes sirios están expresando sorpresa sobre si el ataque ocurrió, NO confirmándolo.

 

HAGEL: Bueno, eso es probablemente clasificado. Congresista tendría que volver atrás y revisar a lo que te refieres. GRAYSON: Usted estará de acuerdo en que es importante que la Administración no induzca a error al público en cualquier forma sobre estos informes no es así? HAGEL: Bueno, por supuesto, pero no soy consciente de que la Administración no está engañando al público acerca de este o cualquier otro tema. Yogi dijo: "Incluso Napoleón tuvo su Watergate."

HAGEL: Bueno, yo no voy a aceptar nada hasta que no lo vea, y ver lo que es. Pero, lo más probable, es clasificado.

GRAYSON: Lo entiendo. Te estoy pidiendo si lo desclasificarian para este propósito. HAGEL: Te acabo de dar mi respuesta. No tengo idea de qué es exactamente lo que estás hablando.
