International Warmongers Beat the War Drums for War Against Russia

By Dr. Rudolf Hänsel, January 27 2021

The only certain thing about this so-called security conference – postponed because of the Corona plague – is that the world’s worst warmongers are again beating the war drums. This year, possibly for a new war against Russia.
By Andrew Korybko, January 27 2021

Russian-American relations will remain just as bad under Biden as they were under Trump except for the 46th President’s desire to extend the New START for another five years as part of an implied nuclear detente with Moscow after his administration also announced that it’ll investigate Russia for alleged cyber spying.

Trump Budget Gives Top Priority to New Generation of Nuclear Weapons

By Patrick Martin, February 11, 2020
The most ominous feature of the new budget document issued Monday by the Trump administration is the prominent place given to the development of a new generation of nuclear weapons, including so-called low-yield weapons, smaller than the bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which are widely regarded as more likely to actually be used in combat. The document calls for nearly $50 billion to be devoted to nuclear modernization, including $29 billion from the Pentagon budget, and $19.8 billion for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), a unit of the Department of Energy which operates the actual production of nuclear warheads, as well as some of the primary research.

NATO’s Deep Political and Legal Crisis: Madness and Irrationality

NATO’s London Summit on December 3 and 4, 2019 displays the deep political crisis of the 70-year-old alliance: Only a dinner and a short meeting, no statement to be issued, quarrels among the leading military members, accusations, substantial differences on Syria and many other issues, the deepest-ever Transatlantic conflict and the usual issues of burden-sharing. Is Kissing a “State Sponsor of Terrorism” a “Terrorist Act”?
By Prof Michel Chossudovsky, November 07, 2018
When George W. Bush respectfully kisses King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, does this mean that Dubya could –by some stretch of the imagination– be considered a “suspected terrorist”, who should never have been elected president of the United States of America?

The West Is Failing Julian Assange
By Stefania Maurizi, November 07, 2018
This lack of cooperation from the UK authorities – which can be reasonably interpreted as a deliberate effort to make Assange feel helpless, to break him down, so he’ll step out of the embassy and they can arrest him – has helped create this Catch-22 situation, with Ecuador attempting various options to find a solution, like giving Assange diplomatic status so he can leave the embassy protected by diplomatic immunity.

Trump’s Project of a Middle East Strategic Alliance (MESA), An “Arab NATO-like Alliance” to Confront Iran

The facts on the ground show clearly that Iran has been fighting and defeating terrorist groups and protecting Syrian cities first and eventually the whole region.

Cell Phone Radiation Leads to Cancer, Says U.S. NTP in Final Report

Higher incidences of brain and adrenal tumors were also seen, but those associations were judged to be somewhat weaker.

Trump Considers “Bloody Nose” Strike on North Korea
By Peter Symonds, February 06, 2018
The Trump administration, or a powerful military-intelligence faction within it, is pushing for a pre-emptive military strike on North Korea, in the wake of, or possibly even during, the Winter Olympics due to start in South Korea on Friday.

North Korea: Genocide Denial
By Prof. John McMurtry, February 06, 2018
With the people and society of North Korea, the same operations of denial have gone into play as endlessly before in the wider context of US-led world power in Indonesia, Vietnam, Latin America, Iraq, Palestine arguably throughout, and so on. Since the North Korean people have already suffered the death of an estimated third of their population by US-led armed forces in previous years, non-stop and imminent nuclear threats against them, and life-destructive embargo, where does it end?

#NorthAmerica First in #War, Last in #Peace

by Stephen Lendman

All US presidential aspirants make promises they intend breaking if elected - Trump no different than his predecessors.

Straightaway in office, he sold out to Wall Street, war-profiteers and other corporate favorites. Instead of draining the swamp, he filled it with neocon generals and billionaires.

Hyperbole calling NATO “obsolete” is long forgotten. So is his phony worker friendly trade agenda - protecting investors over consumers, reneging on halting jobs offshored to low-wage countries.

Instead of changing destructive US policies, he’s pursuing them with vigor - notably by escalating wars in multiple theaters, including by attacking Syria’s Shayrat airbase, likely prelude for further aggression, maybe full-scale war risking confrontation with Russia.

Is North Korea on his target list? Will he risk East Asia nuclear war? His South China Sea saber-rattling risks confrontation with China. Threats against Iran and Venezuela risk more trouble.

Does his “America first” hyperbole mean greater war on humanity than already? Does he intend making his administration first in warmaking above everything else?

How many more countries are on his target list? The New York Times criticized his missing voice on Syria since attacking its Shayrat airbase.

His actions speak louder than words, escalating Obama’s wars, featuring Mosul and northern Syria terror-bombing, massacring civilians, others in Afghanistan and Yemen - horrendous war crimes, ignored by media scoundrels.

What country does he plan to attack next? How many more combat troops are planned for US war theaters?

He earlier said “(w)e really have no choice. We have to knock out ISIS. I would listen to the generals, but I’m hearing numbers of 20,000 to 30,000” in Syria.

McMaster reportedly wants 150,000, a full-scale invasion if ordered either way - for regime change, not combating ISIS Washington created and supports.

A White House statement said “(t)he president retains the option to act in Syria against the Assad regime whenever it is in the national interest…”

In other words, naked US aggression is OK if Trump orders it for any reason - claiming it’s in ‘the national interest.”

He redefined “America first” - warmaking topping his agenda ahead of other priorities.

Propaganda is most effective when our consent is engineered by those with a fine education – Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Columbia — and with careers on the BBC, the Guardian, the New York Times, theWashington Post. These organisations are known as the liberal media. They present themselves as enlightened, progressive tribunes of the moral zeitgeist. They are anti-racist, pro-feminist and pro-LGBT. And they love war.

For the very first time, on October 25th, a high federal official, the “SIGTARP” or Special Inspector General for the TARP program that bailed out the largest financial institutions and their top investors after the 2008 economic crash, is now making a specific proposal to hold the top-level crooks accountable for the incentive-systems they had put into place motivating their employees to pump-and-dump ‘investments’ during the growth-phase of the ‘free market’ Ponzi game that existed since 2000 when the end of the FDR-era Glass-Steagall Act and the start of totally unregulated financial marketeering went wild after 2005 and came crashing down in 2008.

#Obama Has Been At #War Longer Than Any Other #President In #History

by WashingtonsBlog

Bush was a horrible president. At the time, I thought he was the worst president in American history.
But Obama has made a lot of firsts himself …
For example, Obama:
  • Sentenced whistleblowers to 31 times the jail time of all prior u.s. presidents combined
  • Has granted less pardons than any president since Garfield, who served only 200 days as president before being assassinated in 1881
  • May be the only U.S. president in history who failed to deliver a single year of at least 3% economic growth (when adjusted for inflation)
In addition, Obama has presided over:
And as the New York Times notes this week, Obama has been at war longer than any president in history.

#Obama Requests Support for Possible #War Against #Russia

Eric Zuesse

According to Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten (German Economic News), on April 23rd, U.S. President Barack Obama is “demanding the active deployment of the Bundeswehr [Germany’s armed forces, including their Army, Navy, and Air Force] to NATO’s eastern borders” at Poland and the Baltic republics, to join the quadrupling of America’s forces there, on and near those borders of Russia. (This is an extreme violation of what Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev agreed to when he ended the Soviet Union and its NATO-mirror organization the Warsaw Pact, but it’s actually culminating a process that began shortly after he agreed to America’s terms, which included that NATO “not move one inch to the east.”)
Furthermore, DWN reports that on April 25th, the U.S. President will hold a “summit meeting” in Hannover Germany with the leaders of Germany (Angela Merkel), Italy (Matteo Renzi), France (Francois Hollande), and Britain (David Cameron). The presumed objective of this meeting is to

#NorthAmerica: The Greatest Threat to #WorldPeace

Stephen Lendman

No nation in world history matches America’s ruthless agenda - at war at home and/or abroad from inception, not a single year of peace throughout its sordid existence.

It’s the greatest purveyor of violence in world history, its barbarity unequaled, responsible for more harm to more people globally over a longer duration - contemptuous of democratic values, ignoring rule of law principles, indifferent to human suffering.

Dealing diplomatically with neocons infesting Washington at the highest levels assures disaster. They don’t negotiate. They demand, duplicitously pretending otherwise.

Agreements are made to be breached, counterparties always blamed - victims and independent nations

How selective solidarity and sympathy aids a jingoistic foreign policy
On Sunday evening, the first news reports started to come through that France had conducted its largest bombing campaign to date against an ‘ISIS stronghold’ in Raqqa, Syria. The Guardian referred to Raqqa as an ‘IS bastion’, and that the decision to launch such ‘massive, retaliatory airstrikes’ was an act of “self-defence”, according to french foreign minister, Laurent Fabius. These airstrikes follow Friday’s terror attacks in Paris that left over 140 people dead.

Speaking on the first day of the G20 summit in Turkey, Laurent Fabius claimed that

“France has always said that because she has been threatened and attacked by Daesh(ISIS), it would be

#Obama’s #War on #Venezuela

Stephen Lendman

Endless US hot wars rage in multiple theaters. Covert destabilizing ones target numerous other countries.
Toppling Venezuela’s government has been a US objective since Chavez took office in February 1999 - so far not achieved but ongoing without letup.

Occasional US soft diplomatic talk is pure deception - including John Kerry saying Washington “seek(s) ways to improve a historically strong relationship” on the occasion of Venezuela’s July 5 independence day commemoration.

Most often his rhetoric reflects longstanding US meddling in the internal affairs of other countries - flagrantly illegal under core international law ignored by Washington, operating solely by its own rules and standards.

James Petras explains US Latin American policy saying “(f)aced with the mess and difficulty of dislodging incumbent regimes via elections, (it) opted for the choreography of street violence, sabotage, martial law and coups (together with ‘local proxies’) - to be followed by sanitized elections - with US-vetted candidates.”

Venezuela is a prime US target for regime change. It has the world’s largest oil reserves (greater than Saudi

The Reversal of Kerry’s Ukraine Statement Came from Obama, Not Nuland
By Eric Zuesse
obama-kerry-300x200

When Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland on May 15th contradicted her boss John Kerry’s statement of three days earlier, in which Kerry had warned Ukraine’s President Petro Petroshenko not to violate the Minsk II agreement, and not to invade Crimea, and not to re-invade Donbass, the source of this reversal was actually U.S. President Barack Obama, and not Victoria Nuland (as the State Department had reported).

When I first noticed the contradiction as I reported on May 21st, Nuland’s statement on May 15th was being quoted by Ukraine’s Interfax News Agency, without any link to its U.S. source. I looked but didn’t right away find its U.S. source, but the official Ukrainian news agency would not quote a U.S. Government official falsely, and so I went with the story on that basis.

Now that I have found the U.S. source in the full May 15th U.S. State Department press briefing in Washington, there can be little doubt that Nuland had actually been instructed by the White House to be quoted there as issuing this reversal of Kerry’s statement.

The press conference, by the Department’s press spokesperson Jeff Rathke, opened with an introductory statement in which he asserted:
Assistant Secretary Nuland’s ongoing visit to Kyiv and her discussions with Prime Minister Yatsenyuk and President Poroshenko reaffirm the United States’ full and unbreakable support for Ukraine’s government, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. We continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Ukraine and reiterate our deep commitment to a single Ukrainian nation, including Crimea, and all the other regions of Ukraine.
That’s all that was reported by Ukraine’s Interfax. Much later in the press conference, however, after

#NATO Increasingly Surrounds the “ #Russian #Threat ”

“War is Good for Business”

NATO-Russia

On Saturday, April 18th, the Commander of  the U.S. Army in Europe, Ben Hodges, told Britain’s Telegraph  that “There is a Russian threat,” and that “The best insurance we have against a showdown is that NATO stands together.”

Ever since the Soviet Union’s military alliance, the Warsaw Pact, dissolved in 1991, NATO has expanded eastward to Russia’s borders, and now it is preparing to admit yet another nation on Russia’s border: Ukraine. This eastward expansion broke (and breaks, since it’s continuing) a verbal agreement which had produced the termination of the Warsaw Pact (the Soviet Union’s equivalent of America’s NATO alliance).

In February 1990, U.S. President George H.W. Bush sent his Secretary of State, James Baker, to Moscow to negotiate with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev an end to the Cold War. According to Jack Matlock, the U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union then, Baker offered Gorbachev the following deal:
“Assuming there is no expansion of NATO jurisdiction to the East, not one inch, what would you prefer, a Germany embedded in NATO, or one that can go independently in any direction it chooses.”
Baker knew that Russia, after Hitler’s invasion of Russia in June 1941 (“Operation Barbarossa”), feared, more than anything, the possibility that an independent Germany would build a nuclear-weapons force and use it against Russia. According to Ray McGovern’s account of the meeting, Gorbachev “wasted little time agreeing to the deal.”

McGovern, a retired high official of the CIA, blames U.S. President Bill Clinton for breaking that verbal agreement. Gorbachev had gotten nothing in writing from Baker on it, but acted on Baker’s verbal promise.
