AI and HRW disgracefully blamed Syria for what appear to be a CIA-orchestrated April 4 CW false flag, killing dozens, injuring many more.

The attack was carried out as a pretext for Trump’s aggression - planned before the incident occurred, readied to be launched in short order - an act of war against a sovereign state.

AI urged Security Council action to hold Assad responsible for Trump’s high crime, deplorably saying:

“Security Council members, and in particular Russia and China, have displayed callous disregard for human life in Syria by repeatedly failing to pass resolutions that would allow for punitive measures to be taken against those committing war crimes and other serious violations in Syria” - meaning Assad and government officials, even though they had nothing to do with what happened.

“The Security Council must immediately vote to investigate this attack and help bring those responsible to justice. Failure to do so would be catastrophic, risking further emboldening governments and armed groups in Syria to target civilians in war crimes with banned and conventional weapons alike,” AI added, wanting victims prosecuted for perpetrators’ criminality.

HRW’s remarks were just as bad, disgracefully accusing “government forces (of) carrying out chemical attacks (on a) regular” basis.

It lied, claiming “Syrian government helicopters dropp(ed) canisters filled with chlorine in dozens of cases,” citing no credible evidence. None exists.

Plenty indicts US-supported terrorists for attacking defenseless civilians with sarin, chlorine gas and other toxic agents - elements trained in their use by Pentagon contractors in Jordan and Turkey.

HRW criticized Russia and China for vetoing Security Council resolutions - instead of praising them for doing the right thing, blocking measures intending to justify Libyan-type aggression.

In March 2011, Obama launched war on Syria, using ISIS and other terrorist fighters as imperial foot soldiers - aided by US-led terror-bombing since 2014.

America and its rogue allies are aggressors, Syria, its government and people victims of imperial lawlessness - Trump continuing what his predecessor began.

Survival of the Syrian Arab Republic is up for grabs unless Russia, Iran, government forces, and supportive popular ones can save it.

All US presidential aspirants make promises they intend breaking if elected - Trump no different than his predecessors.

Straightaway in office, he sold out to Wall Street, war-profiteers and other corporate favorites. Instead of draining the swamp, he filled it with neocon generals and billionaires. 

Hyperbole calling NATO “obsolete” is long forgotten. So is his phony worker friendly trade agenda - protecting investors over consumers, reneging on halting jobs offshored to low-wage countries.

Instead of changing destructive US policies, he’s pursuing them with vigor - notably by escalating wars in multiple theaters, including by attacking Syria’s Shayrat airbase, likely prelude for further aggression, maybe full-scale war risking confrontation with Russia.

Is North Korea on his target list? Will he risk East Asia nuclear war? His South China Sea saber-rattling risks confrontation with China. Threats against Iran and Venezuela risk more trouble.

Does his “America first” hyperbole mean greater war on humanity than already? Does he intend making his administration first in warmaking above everything else?

How many more countries are on his target list? The New York Times criticized his missing voice on Syria since attacking its Shayrat airbase.

His actions speak louder than words, escalating Obama’s wars, featuring Mosul and northern Syria terror-bombing, massacring civilians, others in Afghanistan and Yemen - horrendous war crimes, ignored by media scoundrels.

What country does he plan to attack next? How many more combat troops are planned for US war theaters?

He earlier said “(w)e really have no choice. We have to knock out ISIS. I would listen to the generals, but I’m hearing numbers of 20,000 to 30,000” in Syria. 

McMaster reportedly wants 150,000, a full-scale invasion if ordered either way - for regime change, not combating ISIS Washington created and supports.

A White House statement said “(t)he president retains the option to act in Syria against the Assad regime whenever it is in the national interest…”

In other words, naked US aggression is OK if Trump orders it for any reason - claiming it’s in ‘the national interest.” 

He redefined “America first” - warmaking topping his agenda ahead of other priorities.

Notable peace activists needn’t apply. Despicable war criminals time and again become Nobel Peace Prize honorees.

This year was no exception, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos the latest recipient for negotiating dubious peace with FARC-EP freedom fighters.

James Petras earlier called them “the longest standing, largest peasant-based guerrilla movement in the world…founded in 1964…legitimate resistance” against ruthless Colombian repression.

He described years of Uribe/Santos state terror against “over 2 million mostly rural poor…forcibly uprooted and driven from their homes and land and displaced across frontiers into neighboring countries, or to urban slums.”

Regime military forces aided by paramilitary death squads “kill(ed) and terrorize(d) entire population centers…”

Santos became Colombia’s 32nd president in August 2010, earlier serving from July 2006 - May 2009, as President Alvaro Uribe’s defense minister.

Both men were involved in narco-terrorism, responsible for murdering thousands of trade unionists, campesinos, human rights workers, journalists, and others opposing ruthless regime policies, along with maintaining close ties to US imperialism.

Former UN Human Rights Rapporteur, Margaret Sekaggya called Colombia under Uribe/Santos a sinkhole of “illegal surveillance…arbitrary arrests and detentions…judicial harassment,” extrajudicial assassinations, and other ruthless practices against anyone resisting regime ruthlessness.

In announcing its award, the Nobel Committee praised Santos, a major human rights violating serial killer, citing “his resolute efforts to bring the country’s more than 50-year-long civil war to an end, (taking) at least 220,000 (lives) and displacing (around) six million people.”

Most Colombian voters rejected ceasefire terms Santos and FARC-EP leader Rodrigo Londono agreed to by referendum. Longstanding state-terrorism remains a weapon to be used by Santos or his eventual successors any time at their discretion.

Peace may turn out more illusory than real. Regardless what lies ahead, rewarding Santos’ involvement in years of state terror is more evidence of deplorable Nobel hypocrisy.

War criminals aren’t peace champions, yet repeatedly win Nobel honors - Committee members making a mockery of their highest award, again this year like so many previous ones.

Everyone, from political pundits in Washington to the Pope in Rome, including most journalists in the mass media and in the alternative press, have focused on the US moves toward ending the economic blockade of Cuba and gradually opening diplomatic relations.  Talk is rife of a ‘major shift’ in US policy toward Latin America with the emphasis on diplomacyand reconciliation.  Even most progressive writers and journals have ceased writing about US imperialism.

However, there is mounting evidence that Washington’s negotiations with Cuba are merely one part of a two-track policy.  There is clearly a major US build-up in Latin America, with increasing reliance on ‘military platforms’, designed to launch direct military interventions in strategic countries. 

Moreover, US policymakers are actively involved in promoting ‘client’ opposition parties, movements and personalities to destabilize independent governments and are intent on re-imposing US domination.

In this essay we will start our discussion with the origins and unfolding of this ‘two track’ policy, its current manifestations, and projections into the future.  We will conclude by evaluating the possibilities of re-establishing US imperial domination in the region.
